The president of the world?s leading professional boxing organization - the World Boxing Council ? Don Jose Sulaiman will undergo what his son and WBC secretary general Mauricio Sulaiman told us would be ?knee replacement surgery.?

Sulaiman told us the surgery will be done in Los Angeles and although Don Jose is ?under pain and discomfort? Mauricio said he will be fine soon.

Don Jose has suffered from the knee ailment for some time now and although he attends all the WBC Conventions in different parts of the world and the big WBC title fights in Mexico and in the US he is at times forced to use a wheelchair although there have been many times that he has gamely stood up for some time during presentations despite the pain.

Meantime, Mauricio Sulaiman who was very impressed with the showing of comparatively unknown Edren "Braveheart" Dapudong (19-2, 10 KO's) when he scored a sensational 1st round knockout of No.1 rated and highly favored Mexican Jesus ?The Destroyer? Jimenez last June 19 to win the WBC silver title told us that promoter Hector Garcia has a firm offer for Dapundong to defend his title against Mexican flyweight champion Wilbert ?Hurricane? Uicab (28-5-1, 17 KO?s) on July 28.

However, Dapudong?s manager and former North Cotabato governor Manny Pinol and his brother Noli who trains the newly crowned champion said it was too soon.

Sulaiman said the promoters offered an August 6 date but Pinol told us he wants the title defense to take place on August 21.

Sulaiman indicated he was forwarding the information to matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz who arranged the Dapudong-Jimenez title fight even as Sulaiman told us ?I truly hope this fight takes place as this is a great match-up.?
