Ana ?Hurricane? Julaton?s pretty face looked like she had been battered by a hurricane in her ten-round showdown with Mexico?s Mariana Elena Villalobos for the vacant WBO women?s super bantamweight title at Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada.

When the fight which was aptly billed as ?Rumble at Rama? was over, the highly touted 29 year old Daly City based Julaton sported an eye that was so badly swollen it was almost closed after an all-out war typical of Philippine-Mexican ring rivalry.

Dave Dawson reporting in the Toronto Sun.com said Julaton?s trademark smile lit up her face when it was announced that she had earned a split decision victory that appeared to make up for her ten round unanimous decision loss to southpaw Liza Brown in a WBA title clash last March 27.

The decision didn?t go down well with many fans who voiced their displeasure by booing but Julaton gamely asked the fans to ?put your hands together to clap.? The slam-bang bout deserved the applause of some 3,000 fans, many of them Filipinos who crowded the Casino?s entertainment center and while they may have been disappointed with the decision they were thrilled with the fight itself.

The taller Julaton who displayed a stinging jab staggered Villalobos but each time she hurt the Mexican she fought back with a flurry of punches.

Dawson said that once Julaton?s eye began to swell she appeared to get mad and began to carry the fight to Villalobos and in the end two of the three judges scored the fight for Julaton because of her aggressive tactics and the fact that she connected with the cleaner punches.

Judges Harry Davis and Zol Nierczyk turned in identical 96-94 scorecards in favor of Julaton while the third judge Bob Bell had Villalobos ahead 97-94.

The countries national anthems and what was described as elaborate ring entrances for both fighters took longer than the opening bout on the card in which former Toronto Maple Leaf hockey player and tough guy Mathan Perrott was battered by the Russian tank Artem Lipanov sent the Canadian crashing to the canvas in the opening round before the referee decided to call a halt seconds before the round ended.

With the win the 29 year old Julaton who is trained by Freddie Roach at his Wild Card Gym improved to 7-2-1 with 1 knockout while Villalobos dropped to 6-4 with 3 knockouts.

Julaton had previously won the IBA title with a ten round majority decision over veteran Kelsey Jeffries (41-9-1, 4 KO?s) on September 12, 2009.
