Mexican puncher Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez has warned Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire that he?s ?coming to win by knockout or by points? when they clash in Puerto Rico on July 11, Manila Time, in a fight card on Top Rank Promtions ?Pinoy Power/Latin Fury? series to be telecast in the Philippines by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN.
Marquez backs up his boast with an impressive record of 20 knockouts in 27 wins and suffered his only defeat at the hands of Filipino flyweight Richie Mepranum who out-boxed and counter-punched his way to victory on the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey undercard last March 13 in Dallas, Texas.
Well known Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran told us that Marquez was not focused for the Mepranum fight as he had to reduce to make the weight but that he was ready for Donaire who better watch out because Marquez is a hard puncher.
Marquez who continues to train hard in Mexico City will face Donaire for his WBA super flyweight interim title. Donaire trains at the Undefeated Gym in San Carlos, California under trainer and former world champion Roberto Garcia with former featherweight champion Steven Luevano among Donaire?s sparring partners.
The widely read internet site boxingscene.com quoted Marquez as saying "I've never been cut, never been stopped and Nonito Donaire - I'm coming to win by knockout or by points."
Tyson said "I'm well aware of Nonoto's abilities. I respect him, but I'm getting ready to fight for fifteen rounds which he won't be able to withstand.? Marquez, who trains under manager Rudy Perez with Jesus Lucero responsible for his conditioning.
Marquez who has already put in around 70 rounds of sparring said "Donaire is a fast fighter, strong, but I have studied him well. Moving around, coming in with speed and punishing the body and jaw, I'm going to win."
To the 21 year old Marquez, ?The most important thing is to stop him from moving around so much. He does not have much resistance. If you touch his jaw, he starts to move around in bad shape? claiming that Donaire ? has a glass jaw."
Donaire told us earlier that while he admires the fighting Mexican heart of Marquez he is not afraid of his power stressing that he (Donaire) will be too fast and too strong for the challenger.
