CONDES WANTS TO REGAIN WORLD TITLE

Former IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes who got married recently in his home province of Romblon is back in Manila and wants to return to the ring and regain the world title he lost to Mexico?s Raul ?Rayito? Garcia in Garcia?s hometown of La Paz on June 14, 2008.

After winning a 5th round technical decision over Ronelle Ferreras on June 13, 2008 Condes faced undefeated South African Nkosinathi Joyi and lost a lopsided unanimous decision to the South African on June 26, 2009. Joyi then went on to win the title with a comfortable unanimous decision over Garcia in South Africa on March 26 this year.

Condes told us that he has already started roadwork every morning in order to get into shape before he begins serious training for what hopefully will be a tune-up fight prior to a possible rematch with Rahman.

In an extremely competitive and exciting fight Condes won the title by a twelve round split decision over Rahman in Jakarta on July 7, 2007, the same day that Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire gave the country a double celebration by scoring a spectacular 5th round knockout to win the IBF/IBO flyweight titles from Australia's Vic Darhinyan. The stunning stoppage was named the "Knockout of the Year" and established the credentials of Donaire.

Condes said he doesn?t wish to fight a Filipino learning from his experience in the Ferreras fight pointing out that they were friends besides being countrymen and he would prefer to fight a foreigner even in a tune-up fight.

Condes is considered one of the hardest punchers in the lower weights and earned the nickname ?Little Manny Pacquiao? because he is a southpaw and has a powerful left.

Regarding his title eliminator against Joyi, Condes said he could not understand the instructions of Dante Ortiz who was speaking to him in English. He was unhappy that Filipino promoter Sammy Gell-ani who accompanied Condes to South Africa abandoned him after two days and flew to Atlantic City where he watched Fernando Lumcad quit against Jorge Arce when he was dropped even though it was obvious he could have continued to fight.

At the same time Condes said he was a little concerned over the size of Joyi who was ?very big and very strong? for a minimum weight. In fact he had his doubts about the weights since he had checked before the official weigh-in since he feared he was overweight but when he stepped on the scales he was just over 103 which surprised him while Joyi who looked so much bigger and heavier came in at 104 ? pounds.

Condes said he didn?t want to think about the purses for his fights against Garcia and Joyi where he is convinced he was short-changed and would rather concentrate on getting back into the ring, earning another title shot and making sure that he would not be deceived again.
