Philippine-Mexican rivalry in the ring will be highlighted Sunday by the acrimonious battle between WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol and a seemingly angry former champion Omar Nino in a rematch but an equally interesting showdown will take place between flyweights Edren Dapudong (17-2, 9 KO?s) and Jesus ?Destroyer? Jimenez (28-5, 20 KO?s) for the newly minted WBC Silver belt in the picturesque resort province of Nayarit.

In another bout on the undercard of a Sammy Gello-ani promotion, super flyweight Richard Garcia (21-10-1, 5 KO?s) clashes with hard-hitting Juan Jose Montes (17-1, 11 KO?s).

At the official weighin Dapudong tipped the scales at 112 pounds while Jimenez came in two pounds under at 110 while Garcia came in at 114 pounds while Montes made the exact super flyweight limit of 115.

Dapudong who is a prot?g? of former North Cotabato governor and journalist Manny Pinol will be giving away 3 ? inches in height to the 26 year old southpaw Jimenez (5 7 1/2?) who is the reigning WBC Latino champion having won the title with a 4th round knockout over Santiago Ivan Acosta (16-2-2, 7 KO?s) on June 26, 2009.

Jimenez went on to score a 3rd round KO over Roberto Lopez on December 5, 2009 and in his last bout won a ten round unanimous decision over 70-fight veteran Paulino Villalobos on March 10, 2010.

The 5?4? Dapudong is coming off a 2nd round KO of Nelson Llanos on March 2, 2010 following an eight round unanimous decision over Jayson Geda on August 9, 2009. Dapudong?s biggest win was a 7th round TKO over former world light flyweight world title challenger, veteran Bert Batawang in a WBO Oriental title fight on April 24, 2009. Dapudong overpowered Batawang dropping him once in round 5 and then again in round 7.

Nicknamed ?Brave Heart? Dapudong won the WBO Asia Pacific Youth minimum weight title with a 3rd round TKO over Jack Amisa of Indonesia on September 29, 2007.

The 25 year old super flyweight Garcia who is coming off a lopsided twelve round loss to South Africa?s Zolani Tete in an IBF flyweight title eliminator on February 26, 2010 in South Africa with all three judges scoring it 118-110 for Tete, previously won the Pan Asia Boxing Association interim title beating South Korea?s Myung-Koo Yuh on July 7, 2008 and retained the title with an eleven round majority decision over tough and talented Thai challenger Ratanapol Sor Vorapin on October 3, 2008.

The 20 year old Montes won the WBC World Youth super flyweight title with a stunning 2nd round knockout of previously unbeaten 21 year old Jose Salgado (18-0, 16 KO?s) in a fight where referee Manuel Rivera waived the count after Salgado was dropped twice in the second round, which provided an indication of the punching power of Montes.

The Mexican previously scored a ten round unanimous decision over Filipino flyweight Fernando Lumacad on November 28, 2009 and in his last bout on April 13, 2010 won by a 3rd round disqualification over Roberto Carlos Leyva. Referee Delasio Perez Huerta disqualified Leyva f or what he deemed a deliberate head-butt.
