Undefeated WBO light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (34-0-1, 6 ko?S) has promised interim champion Johnreil Casimero (14-0, 8 ko?S) a title fight on August 28 in Puerto Rico provided Casimero overcomes the challenge of Ramon Garcia Hirales (12-1-1, 8 ko?S) in Las Paz, Mexico on July 3.

Calderon had earlier announced that he would defend his title against the 20 year old Filipino last Saturday at New York?s Madison Square Garden but inexplicably the fight was called off and Calderon defended his title against Mexican Jesus Iribe (16-7-5, 10 KO?s)and as expected, won an easy twelve round decision.

When Casimero beat fancied Colombian Cesar Canchila in a stunning 11th round TKO after dropping Canchila five teams it was touted as an eliminator for a mandatory title shot at Calderon. Not only was Casimero replaced he was also taken off the Madison Square Garden card and his fight against Hirales moved to July 3 in Mexico which will give the challenger a hometown advantage.

Peter Rivera, vice president of PR Best Boxing has announced that Casimero will get his mandatory title shot in August in Puerto Rico. In his most recent win last Saturday against Jesus Iribe in New York, Calderon suffered a minor cut on his right cheek.

Rivera said that Calderon, who has a recurring tendency to get cut as he did in both defenses against Rodel Mayol, the current WBC champion, also suffered a cut in his fight against Iribe.

For his part Calderon told El Nuevo Dia, "right now we're going to check the cut that I have. If everything is OK, we'll fight again on August 28 in Puerto Rico, where I'll make my 19th title defense. Casimero is fighting in Mexico. If he wins, he'll fight with me on August 28 in Puerto Rico."
