Welterweight Mark Jason Melligen (18-2, 13 KO?s) wants to make a statement in his rematch with lanky 5?11? Mexican Michel Rosales (27-3, 23 KO?s) at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada on July 3.

Melligen who is currently training hard at the Floyd Mayweather Jr gym in Las Vegas told us before he left Cebu?s famed ALA Gym for the US that he had learned from his mistakes in his first fight when he dropped a ten round split decision to Rosales and promised he would be far more aggressive in the return bout.

In that fight judges Paul Smith and Eric Cheek scored the fight 96-94 for Rosales while the third judge Burt Clements had Melligen the winner by a wide margin of 98-92.

Melligen was clearly bothered when he entered the ring for the first clash with Rosales as he had seen his good friend Z ?The Dream? Gorres carried out of the ring on a stretcher after he collapsed in his corber following a rousing win over Colombia?s rugged Luis Melendez and said he lost focus almost completely but now that Gorres has recovered and is going well, that episode no longer bothers him.

Melligen is training under the eagle eye of longtime Cebu resident Anthony ?Tony? Martin who told us Thursday that the hard-hitting but soft-spoken southpaw is training so hard in stifling heat of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit that they ?are totally soaked in our sweat and that is not only from the heat but the hard work we are doing.?

Martin said ?I can tell you now that this return fight with Rosales is being treated by us as though it is a world title fight and accordingly we will not leave anything to chance in our preparation. Come fight night Rosales had better be in great shape as he will not be meeting the same Melligen he met last year.?

He said that in each sparring session they are using three different sparring partners, with a total of 10 rounds each session. Martin added ?even though i say it myself, Melligen is looking real good, sharp crisp combination's, great upper body and head movement and of course his defense speaks for it self.?

In conclusion the confident trainer said ?we are going up to Reno to make a statement ?

The 24 year old southpaw Melligen is coming off an impressive ten round shutout win over Norberto ?Demonio? Gonzales who had a record of 18-1 with 12 knockouts and had won the Mexican title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Manuel Garcia on November 18, 2009.

Rosales who is also a southpaw has also been active beating Orlando Escobar who retired in the 5th round last February 6 and then scoring a 1st round TKO over Eduardo Mondragon last May 19.
