Former WBC light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa (38-6, 22 KO?s) who lost his title in a controversial 2nd round TKO to Filipino Rodel Mayol has won his comeback fight in explosive fashion.

Sosa knocked out former IBF minimum weight champion Roberto ?Mako? Leyva (27-12-1, 21 KO?s) in the second round of a fight card in Acapulco, Mexico designed to get Sosa back into the light flyweight list of contenders.

Mayol hurt Sosa in the first round of their title fight last November 21 after the Mexican suffered a head-butt which clearly made him groggy. Mayol pounced on Sosa in the second round and trapped him against the ropes where he let loose a barrage of punches that gave the referee no choice but to call a halt.

In a post fight medical examination Sosa was found to have a fractured his left cheekbone which angered his handlers and Mexican fans when he was forced to take a six month break.

In his first defense of the title Mayol faced former champion Omar Nino Romero who had previously won the WBC title from Brian Viloria on August 10, 2006.

Mayol retained his crown with a 3rd round technical draw after Omar Nino Romero dropped Mayol with a clear low blow and as referee Vic Drakulich moved in to give Mayol time to recover, the Mexican hit him with a strong left hook that knocked him out cold last February 27, 2010.

Mayol faces Omar Nino Romero in a rematch in Queretaro, Mexico on June 19.
