Sonny Boy Jaro used wicked body shots to wear down the smaller but shiftier Arman Dela Cruz before knocking him out at 2:16 of the sixth round in a fight card of Rod Nazario?s weekly boxing show ?In This Corner? presented in cooperation with ARCI Boxing Promotions at the Central Plaza in Eastwood City, Monday evening.

Jaro who was ranked as the top contender won the title from the champion Dela Cruz, the game southpaw whose quick in-and-out movement befuddled Jaro in the early stages of the twelve round title fight in which he repeatedly scored points but once Jaro worked the body and connected with some solid punches it was only a matter of time before Dela Cruz would succumb.

In his desire to work the body, Jaro caught the champion with low blows in both the second and the third round and was cautioned by international referee Bruce McTavish.

In the sixth round Jaro ripped Dela Cruz with some devastating body shots that sent the champion crashing to the canvas. Dela Cruz tried to get up but went down again giving the fans of Jaro from the Elorde Shaw Boxing Gym something to cheer about.

With the win Jaro improved to 29-8-5 with 19 knockouts while Dela Cruz dropped to 23-13-3 with 8 knockouts.

The hard-hitting Jaro was coming off a surprising 1st round KO loss to WBA champion Giovanni Segura on November 12, 2009 after losing a twelve round unanimous decision in a WBC title fight against Edgar Sosa on September 27, 2008 in a fight in which Jaro dropped the champion in the 9th round but couldn?t put him away.

In the Philippine lightweight championship bout promising southpaw Jay Solmiano won the vacant title when No. 1 contender Cris Alag was rightfully disqualified by referee Ver Abainza following a succession of low blows in round four after two points had been deducted for low blows in the previous round. The time of the disqualification was 1:32 of the fourth round.

With the win Solmiano who was ranked No. 2 improved to 8-0-1 with 4 knockouts while Alag dropped to 8-16 with 4 knockouts.

In a ten round bantamweight battle Emlar Francisco who is ranked No. 3 by the Luzon Professional Boxing Association scored an upset when he beat No. 1 ranked Prell Tupaz, dropping Tupaz with a strong right hook in round four eb route to a comfortable unanimous decision with all three judges turning in identical scorecards of 98-90.

The Philippines No. 4 rated super flyweight Louie Bantigue took opn LUZPROBA No. 4 bantamweight and beat him by a unanimous decision in an eight round bout with all three judges scoring the fight for Bantigue by margins of 78-74, 78-73 and 79-73.

In one of the most entertaining fights of the evening where both boxers engaged in a give-and-take affair the experienced Rodel Quilaton dropped gutsy Mike Romulo with a solid left to score a TKO at 0:50 seconds of the eighth and final round.

LUZPROBA No. 6 bantamweight, undefeated Dennis Tubieron dropped No. 8 ranked Jay Balido who quit after he was dropped twice by a right hook, turning his back and indicating he had had enough. The time of the TKO was 2:15 of the fourth. . It was Tubieron?s sixth straight win since turning pro.
