Julaton fights Brown tomorrow

If Manny Pacquiao is men?s pound-for-pound king in boxing, compatriot Ana ?The Hurricane? Julaton stands to become the queen in the distaff side of sweet science.
The pretty Filipina-American, already the current International Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization super bantamweight champion, seeks a third title ? the World Boxing Association version of the 122-pound division held by Lisa ?Bad New? Brown Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, Canada.
Titled ?Rumble at Rama XI?, the bout, however, could be the toughest for the Filipina?s young career eight-fight as she is ranged against the Toronto-based defending champion, who is a three-time titleholder herself who has travelled far and wide all throughout world in search for fame and fortune raking in an impressive 16-win, 4 loss,3-draw record, 5 KOs.
This, coupled by the rugged Brown?s pre-fight statement that she won?t allow the crown to go out of Canada, meant Julaton (6-1-1 1 KO) will, indeed, face an uphill battle in her quest for further recognition both in the international boxing scene but in the country of her parents? origin.
The smart San Francisco beauty was undaunted though realizing that the only thing standing in the way to worldwide fame is Brown, whom she promised to beat to add the WBA to her collection.
?Anytime you have a potential crossover superstar like Ana, she has to deliver both inside and outside the ring,? Allan Tremblay, President of the promoting Orion Sports Management, said of the Filipina, who despite her recent successes still fails to make her noticed by both the Filipino sports media boxing fans.
?This is her chance to show the world that she?s more than just a very pretty face. If she beats a warrior like Lisa Brown, she?ll prove to be as talented as she is beautiful, which would be a boon to not only herself, but to woman?s boxing in general,? Tremblay said.
Like her more illustrious pound-for-pound king, she is dedicating this fight to the Filipinos back home as well to the promotion of women?s boxing. To the Americans who have been following her career, Julaton is exactly what women?s boxing needs. She is a warrior in the ring, and a true gem outside of the ring.
The 29 year-old Julaton has already proven her fighting mettle in her brief, yet accomplished, career, with her most notable win coming last September in San Jose, California, where she topped veteran Kelsey Jeffries to claim the vacant IBA female Junior Bantamweight title and earned the distinction as the first Filipina world boxing champion.
Julaton added to her belt collection just 11 weeks later by outclassing Donna Biggers over 10 rounds to capture the WBO 122 lb world crown. In both fights, she was not given a Chinaman?s chance to win and stash away with the championships.
In disposing off Jeffries, she became one of, (if not the) quickest boxer to ever win a championship title in the sport, accomplishing the feat in only her seventh professional bout.
Such an accomplishment may never be duplicated again, but what?s even more intriguing is that rather than hand-picking a few less-than-capable opponents to aid her in extending her championship tenure, Julaton has instead set out once again to add more history by fighting Brown in a unification bout.
What the 39 year-old Brown gives away in age, she more than makes up for in big-fight experience, having tasted victories against some of the best fighters in the business, racking up three world titles along the way.
?This is the type of fight where you could flip a coin to see who?s going to come out on top. It?s that close,? Tremblay said. ?And that?s a testament to these two warriors. They?re not ducking anybody. This is the best fight out there, and each decided to step up to the plate.?
In the evening?s main event, ?The Canadian Kid? Steve Molitor (31-1, 12 KO?s) tries to become a two-time world champion, when he faces South African Takalani ?The Panther? Ndlovu (30-5, 18 KO?s) in a world title tilt for the belt Molitor once held, the now vacant IBF Junior Featherweight championship of the world.
Also on the show, in a ten round special attraction, Canadian Heavyweight champion, Greg ?The Steel Pole? Kielsa (11-0, 5 KO?s), of Brampton, Ontario, defends his title against Toronto?s Neven Pajkic (11-0, 5 KO?s). The Ana Julaton fight will be on GMA TV at 3 p.m. Sunday (Manila Time).
