It will be a bittersweet night for Nonito Donaire, Sr., the man behind Nonito,Jr.'s success, as he cheers for his son on the main event. Donaire, Sr. will facilitate the corner of Filipino co-feature Ciso "Kid Terrible" Morales (14-0, 8KO) who engages Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel (39-2-2, 29 KO) for the WBO 118 pound championship.
Donaire, Sr. shares with Philboxing his insight and philosophy on training fighters.
"The boxer's success is dependent on the trainer's guidance reminiscent of thoroughbreds and fighting cocks. Success is proportional to the aptness of the trainer's methods. In the ring, life and livelihood are always on the line. These are lessons I've learned growing up in General Santos, Philippines-- where street fights were common. I survived due to fighting techniques I've emulated. What I try to impart is the importance of physical and mental preparation. Success is always within reach when you're ready. Be prepared just like the boy scouts. And be all you can be just like I did in the Philippine Army," Donaire, Sr. explained.
(Parang karera at sabong.
"My advice to youngsters who want to go into athletics is to avoid vices like smoking, drugs and alcohol. It's better if you go to your local gym or just jog. This is what I have taught Glenn and Nonito, Jr.. Boxing has kept them from joining gangs. Spend your money wisely and most importantly, follow your parents' advice."
"My nephew Arvin Jugarap has helped me in at least 12 championship fights. Arvin is a student of the fight game. He reads fitness books and learns by watching videos of modern training methods in strength and conditioning. He traded a lucrative job testing medical equipment for what he loves---training fighters. He has been in my corner for Jun-Jun, Glenn, Michael Katsidis, now Ciso Morales and Marvin Sonsona.
For Arvin Jugarap, strength and conditioning coach for Ciso Morales and Marvin Sonsona, boxing has become a family affair.

"I am always learning from Uncle Nonito. We dedicate our Kennel Boxing Gym to him and the future Filipino champions. We ( my brothers Brian, Diovanne and his wife Valerie, cousin Derrick and I) are grateful for the opportunity to help people who want to learn the art of boxing----for fitness and self-defense. Boxing must be in our genes."
