The good news is that members of the national training not belonging to the elite category will resume receiving their monthly stipend from the Philippine Sporrs Comission efective this month.

The bad news is the national sports association s concerned have yet to submit their respective roster for the PSC accounting department to process the payrool.
PSC chair Harry Angping assured this during yesterday?s press briefing at his newly-renovated office even as he urged all the NSAs concerned to update their lists in fairness to the athletes, who have not been receiving their monthly dues after their respective teams were disbanded at the end of last year.
Angping said that in case the list comes later than February athletes will be receiving their monthly pay retroactive to this month.

Athletes, under the PSC new policy, will be categorized into those belonging to the elite group who will be receiving P20,000 a month, and those under the ordinary group who will be paid from P6,000 to P8,000 monthly.
Only three athletes have so far been elevated to the elite group ? bowler Biboy Rivera, a former World Cup champion, and netters Cecile Mamiit and Treat Huey ? who in addition, will be given the needed international exposure in the run to this year?s Asian games this November.

Also to be considered to be elevated is chess Grandmaster Wesley So, who the PSC top honcho said, stands to receive from P1 to P2 million in terms of allowance and international exposure.

?The PSC is ready to implement this new scheme, not only for the Asian Game, likewise, for the 2012 Olympic Games. But the trouble is, it looks like the NSAs are not yet ready.
Angping also announced that the construction of a state-of-the-art football stadium inside the Rizal Memorial Track and Field Stadium will start next month in partnership with La Salle.

He said La Salle, under a memorandum of agreement signed between the PSC and that institution, will be spending P8 million while the agency will contribute P500,000. Construction will last for three months.

Angping added that while portion of the track and field oval will remain, that will only be for the purpose of training with a new Olympic standard facilities to rise inside the Philsports within the Ultra compound in Pasig City.

?As soon as the track and field oval is transferred to Ultra, that will become the official home of athletics,? the PSC chair, President Macapagal-Arroyo?s special envoy to China said.
Angping said the dialog with the different NSAs which he started as early as last month, will resume today with officials, athletes and coaches in triathlon, shooting, sailing, windsurfing, archery and athletics.

Judo, wrestling and rowing will have their turn on Wednesday until all the NSAs shall have been completed, including medal-rich athletics and aquatics as well as the martial arts sports and basketball.
