Ciso "Kid Terrible" Morales' Deliverance

Boxers choose the "sweet science" due to their genetic predisposition for competitive combat.

This is probably why most fighters (we meet, watch and read about) are drawn to the global crown's allure--even if it rarely results in fame and fortune.

Ciso Morales is one such fighter who is eager to succeed.

A few pundits say his style and work ethic is reminiscent of Erik Morales'.

"Kid Terrible" views boxing also as his vessel for redemption.

"Makabawi man lang ako sa mga kababata kong mang-aapi (If I could just redeem myself from my childhood tormentors)," explained the denizen of Talibon, Bohol.

"I learned to fight as a form of self-defense against the neighborhood bullies."

"Gusto kong maipakita sa kanila na malayo ang mararating ko (I want to show them I will go far)."

“Nasa Diyos at sakripisiyo ang ating tagumpay
"Boxing is my job and my calling. Boxing provided the opportunity of my lifetime. I chose this career to help my parents and make them proud," the humble Morales intimated after his morning jog at the Marina in San Leandro.

On February 13 at the Las Vegas Hilton, RP's Ciso "Kid Terrible" Morales (14-0, 8KO's) will square off against tactical bully WBO 115-pound champion Fernando "The Rooster" Montiel (39-3-2, 29 KO's) of Sinaloa, Mexico.

One-time heir to legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, the 31-year old Montiel is ripe for the taking--if you ask Pinoy fans.

"Montiel has shown vulnerability. I sense he has slowed down a bit. He best not under-estimate Ciso. We've been working on speed, tactic and stamina. Our training and punch mitts sessions will help us go 12 rounds. No distractions in training camp and totally focused," stated Nonito Donaire, Sr. at the Kennel Boxing Gym.

For a fighter to succeed, collaborative effort is paramount. Everyone from promoter, chief trainer, cut-man, conditioning coach, manager (and relatives) should have the fighter's well- being at heart.

"If a fighter is in physical and mental shape, he will always have a good chance," so says Ciso's Philippine promoter Sam Gello-ani.

"Ciso has adjusted to a re-designed nutrition and hydration regimen. There will be no problem coming down from 122 to 118 pounds. Morales will have the 'pop' once we get to the later rounds," commented Arvin Jugarap, CEO of KennelBoxing.com.

The synergistic bond between Ciso and his buddy Marvin Sonsona (both A+ students of the fight game) is manifested during their joint work-outs and daily runs.

"Ciso is my best friend. He is tough and savvy...better than most people give him credit for. I appreciate his help for my upcoming fight against Wilfredo Vasquez, Jr. on February 27 in Puerto Rico. I can see Ciso beating Montiel," "Mahvelous" Marvin Sonsona enthused.
