Mexican warrior Jorge “Travieso” Arce is a world champion once more after winning the vacant WBO super flyweight title with a 7th round TKO victory over Indonesia’s Angky Angkota in a fight card at the Plaza de Torros Arroyo in Mexico City.

Arce drove the smaller Angkota to a corner and continued to keep him there, overcoming the Indonesian with his flurries although Angkota caught the Mexican with a good uppercut and a looping left in the opening round that drew blood from Arce’s usually bloodied nose.

Angkota, a southpaw, suffered a nasty gash over his right eye from an accidental head-butt in the seventh round which was one of several in a fight that was much of the time fought at close quarters, forcing the referee to call a halt and go to the judges scorecards.

Two of the judges had Arce winning by a shutout 60-54 while the third judge also had it for the Mexican but by a much closer 58-56 margin.

The 30 year old Arce who is now a four-time world title holder improved to 53-6-1 with 40 knockouts while Angkota dropped to 18-4 with 9 knockouts.

WBA Interim super flyweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire's trainer, former world champion Robert Garcia, mentioned a possible blockbuster fight between Donaire and Arce should Donaire get past Mexico's Gerson Guerrero on Februart 13 at the Las Vegas Hilton in their "Pinoy Power III" showdown.
