The Philippines Alice Kate Aparri dropped a heartbreaking 4:3 decision to Canada ?s tough Jacqueline Park who was regarded as one of the favorites in the light flyweight division at the 2008 Women?s World Boxing Championships in the Ningbo Youngor Gymnasium in the ancient Chinese city.
The 24 year old Aparri who scored an impressive 7-2 victory over Monika Csik of Hungary in her opening bout couldn?t duplicate that performance and bowed out of the competition. It was a painful loss for the 2006 bronze medalist.
However, in a day of mixed fortunes for the Philippines , Analisa Cruz scored a stunning 6:5 upset over Argentina ?s Paola Benevidez who was the Pan American Games champion in the flyweight division in 2006 and 2007.
In Sunday?s action pinweight Josie Gabuco scored a comfortable 7-3 win over Vietnam?s Nguyen Thi Hoa to advance to the next round.
Others still to see action are former Asian champion Mitchel Martinez and Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Annie Albania.
