Two Filipino boxers, Rey Anton Olarte and Jurland Caniza are ready to do battle against Australian opponents at the Town Hall in Malvern, Melbourne on Friday night although the odds appear to be against them.

Well known Australian promoter and host of a popular weekly boxing show Peter Maniatis told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that both Olarte and Caniza ?looked fit and mean business.?

Maniatis, Australia?s former ?Promoter of the Year? gave both Filipinos a 50-50 chance of winning their six round bouts . 21 year old light welterweight Caniza who battles Leigh ?Lethal? Purcell weighed in at 65 kg while Purcell tipped the scales at 66kg.

Maniatis reported that Olarte came in at 61.60 kg while his opponent Lincoln Stewart weighed in at 63 kg.

Caniza who has a record of 6-10-1 with 3 knockouts is coming off a 2nd round KO loss to undefeated prospect Leonardo Zappavigna, a former sparring partner of Manny Pacquiao while Purcell (8-3-1, 1 KO) returns after a three-year layoff. His last fight was a 9th round TKO loss to Allan Luxford on December 9, 2005.

Olarte (5-7-1, 0 KO?s) put on a game fight before losing a six rounds bout to undefeated Jackson Asiku while the 29 year old Stewart (14-4-1, 12 KO?s) is a knockout artist. But Stewart is coming off a unanimous decision loss over six rounds to rugged Filipino Jun Paderna.
