The possible showdown between Mexican warrior Jorge Arce and ?The Raging Bull? Vic Darchinyan that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has been talking about in a super flyweight championship mix that will include IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire and WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel is heating up.
Arce, the WBA super flyweight interim champion is no longer chasing WBC super bantamweight champion Israel Vasquez and says he?ll settle for Drachinyan who is the reigning IBF/WBC and WBA 115 pound champion following his demolition of the highly-favored Cristian Mijares last November 1 in nine rounds.
Arce claimed Vasquez waited too long to respond to his challenge and said he believes Vasquez was ?scared of the matchup.? Setting his sights on Darchinyan, Arce said ?I can only hope that Darchinyan won?t run for the hills like Vasquez did.?
Arce who hammered Isidro Garcia into submission in four rounds in his last fight conceded that boxing is business and right now a fight with Darchinynan ?makes more sense,? adding ?let?s see how much guts the so-called ?Raging Bull? actually has. Arce has a record of 51-4-1 with 39 knockouts. No sooner had Arce issued the dare, www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports received an email from the Darchinyan camp.
Drachinyan who silenced his critics with a brutal beating of the stylish Mijares said he was prepared to give Arce who was described as the ?Mexican loudmouth the big Ole?-off!?
Darchinyan whose only defeat was a stunning 5th round KO at the hands of Donaire in an IBF/IBO title defense by the Australian southpaw on July 7, 2007 has a record of 31-1-1 with 25 knockouts.
Darchinyan, a native of Armenia blasted Arce saying ?if he thinks he has a snowball?s chance in hell of beating me then he? a bigger sucker than those lollipops he chews on. Arce shouldn?t be worried about me running to the hills. He should be worried about me running him out of boxing.1?
Darchinyan pointed out that the last real ring test Arce had was against Mojares in 2007 in what he described as ? a murderous unanimous decision for Mijares? who won by margins of 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111. Darchinyan took a final swipe saying ?everyone saw what I did to Mijares. It will be like a a Chihuahua going up against a raging bull!?
Arum had earlier told us he was planning on possibly matching Donaire against Montiel in Manila in the first quarter of next year in partnership with Solar Sports. Montiel defeated Z "The Dream" Gorres early last year in Cebu in a highly controversialdecision and a fight against Donaire is certain to be a major attraction.
