VIOLENCE ERUPTS AFTER KICKETT IS KO?D

Western Australia?s rising young star, 21 year old ?Cool Willie? Kickett?s stunning first round knockout by Ahmed ?Trigger? Elomar (15-1-2, 8 KO?s) at the Central Coast League Club in Sydney, Friday night resulted in violence among spectators that forced Fox Sports to cut short its telecast.
One of the TV commentators described ?scenes of horror? that were not suitable for broadcast and blamed supporters of Elomar for creating trouble.
Kickett was on a thirteen fight winning steak with five knockouts and was aiming to add to his tally but a report monitored by www.insidesports.ph said he was caught by a punishing overhand right from Elomar midway in round one, forcing referee Brad Griffiths to call a halt to the bout.
The 21 year old Kickett was regarded as an exciting prospect by respected trainer Johnny Lewis who had trained several world champions in the past and former world light heavyweight champion Danny Green.
Kickett started off impressively and had driven Elomar back before he was nailed by a huge right hand.
The trouble began when supporters of Elomar rushed into the ring to celebrate his victory as the new WBO Asia Pacific Youth and IBF Pan Pacific Youth champion.
The TV coverage by Fox Sports was taken off the air when angry fans rained chairs and bottles into the ring even as Kickett?s trainer Craig Christian tried to protect his fighter from the debris thrown into the ring.
Trainer Johnny Lewis once predicted that Kickett would be Australia?s next legitimate world champion even as fight fans compared his style to former world bantamweight champion and another Aboriginal great Lionel Rose.
Kickett impressed many well-known boxing people when he fought eight times in 2007. He wound up the year with a dominant eight round victory over former two-time world title challenger Tommy Browne who once fought featherweight champion Injin Chi and gave him a good fight in Seoul, South Korea.
Last June 24 Kickett took another major step in his career when he beat former IBF super featherweight champion Gairy St. Clair after scoring an eight round unanimous decision over Filipino Romeo Jakosalem at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu.
Among the Filipinos Kickett beat were Rolando Gerongco and Junmar Dulog who are both based in Sydney . But his most impressive performance was his first round TKO victory over rugged Jun Paderna on October 20, 2007.
Kickett won the titles he lost to Elomar on August 22 when he scored a comfortable ten round decision over Vicente Martin Rodriguez.
The 25 year old Elomar who has also beaten a number of Filipinos suffered a stunning fourth round TKO to Ariel Omongos, another fighter based in Sydney last May 28.
