Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire is expected to move up to 115 pounds and face Mexican warrior Jorge Arce should they both win their fights at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday, Manila Time.
The fights will be telecast by Solar Sports on CS/9 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Donaire himself told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that he would hope to get the big fights against such known boxers as Arce, WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel, WBC/WBA champion Cristian Mijares and the man from whom he won the flyweight title, Vic Darchinyan, the reigning IBF super flyweight champion.
Darchinyan is also seeing action on Sunday against Mijares at the Home Depot Center in Carson , California .
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said should both Donaire and Arce win, he plans a super flyweight showdown between them in Manila early next year which Donaire welcomed saying ?that would be great. I want to fight somebody really big.?
Well known WBC ring physician Dr. Allan Recto who watched Donaire work out recently in Las Vegas said he believes the fight against mandatory challenger Moruti Mthalane of South Africa will be Donaire?s last fight at 112 and he is likely to move up to fight the bigger and better known fighters at 115.
Donaire has said ?I want those fights. I think that?s what makes it easy for me to stay focused. Those guys are really tough and I have a lot of respect for them. These are the guys I want to chop down.?
Donaire said he is prepared to face the cocky Darchinyan whom he knocked out with a perfectly-timed left hook on July 7, 2007 to win the IBF/IBO flyweight titles but maintained the result would be the same. Donaire said Darchinyan ?cant accept what I did to him. I took everything away from him that night.?
He said he?ll fight Darchinyan if his promoter, Bob Arum will make it happen.
Donaire, right now, is focused on his title defense against Mthalane whose trainer Nick Durandt said their fight plan was to hopefully stay away from the power of Donaire in the early going before launching a full-scale attack in the second half of the title fight.
Donaire conceded that Mthalane was a compact little fighter who is always in great shape and tough ?but he?s one dimensional? and expressed confidence saying ?I know my punches. I know I will tale him out.?
Arce (50-4-1, 38 KO?s) battles Isidro Garcia (25-5-2, 8 KO?s) on the same card as Donaire for the WBA super flyweight interim title in a bout that is expected to fuel discussions of a future Donaire-Arce clash. In fact at a media day in Las Vegas, Donaire and Arce posed for the press indicating that perhaps the build-up for a future battle is already beginning.
