Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao?s sparring partner Yuri Foreman who is expected to begin working with Pacquiao this coming week along with Rashad Holloway and Cordova has won a ten round bout easily on the Kelly Pavlik-Bernard Hopkins undercard in Atlantic City.
The 28 year old Foreman maintained his unbeaten record with an easy win over 33 year old Jamaican Vinroy Barrett (27-7, 11 KO?s) who had been a contestant on the second season of The Contender reality series.
Foreman used his stinging left jab and good movement along with excellent combinations to dominate the fight all throughout. The shutout scorecards of all three judges 100-90 came as no surprise to fight fans at the Boardwalk.
Junior middleweight Foreman who is rated No. 5 by the WBA, No. 6 by the WBC, No. 7 by the IBF and No.8 by the WBO.
Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach in an overseas telephone conversation with www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports said he had lined up the biggest and best sparring partners for Pacquiao this week, beginning Tuesday.
Two sparring partners have already fallen by the wayside. The first was light middleweight Aaron ?The Energizer? Robinson (6-2-1, 4 KO?s) whom Roach described as a fighter whose ?style was a little bit awkward.? Pacquiao sparred four rounds with Robinson but when Roach let Pacquiao go and he ?went for the body shots the guy ran.?
Marcus McDaniels, reportedly a 154 pound fighter from New Orleans went four rounds with Pacquiao as he wound up his first week of sparring. But after Pacquiao tagged the rangy slugger with a solid left hook towards the end of the third round McDaniels was clearly hurt and he leaned on the ropes as Pacquiao backed off. According to Dr. Ed de la Vega who was at the gym Pacquiao didn't hit him again.
Roach said he has lined up the biggest and the best sparring partners for Pacquiao beginning next week with Rashad Holloway who sparred with Pacquiao on Tuesday and said later he felt the power of Pacquiao?s body shots, light middleweight Foreman who stands 5?11 and light welterweight Marvin ?Much Too Much? Cordova Jr who is also undefeated with a record of 20-0-1 including 11 knockouts.
Britain's Amir Khan who has started training with Roach is also expected to spar with Pacquiao in the weeks ahead.
Roach said that Holloway who approximates the style of De La Hoya ?is the best guy.? Roach said ?he is perfect and I?m saving him for next week.?
