The camp of Z ?The Dream? Gorres which is accepting the offer for a rematch against WBO super flyweight champion depending on the purse and other terms and conditions, has expressed concern over the selection of the referee and three judges.
Smarting from a hugely controversial split decision loss to Montiel in Febuary last year, Gorres? handlers led by young Michael Aldeguer have informed Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez as well as international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz that while they are ?accepting the fight? they want to ensure that there would be no Hispanic referee or judges.
In the last Gorres-Montiel title fight referee Samuel Viruet came under fire for deducting points from Gorres even without a warning while Raul Caiz Sr.?s scorecard was also questioned when compared to American judge Danny Nelson who had Gorres the winner 115-111 despite the deductions.
Aldeguer also indicated they wanted to know ?all the terms and conditions? for the title fight which Top Rank promoter Bob Arum announced in an interview on dzSR Sports Radio?s ?Sports Chat? show hosted by Dennis Principe would he held in Macau on October 11. Arum confirmed the date along with matchmaker Lewkowicz.
Arum also told us the main event would feature the title defense of IBF flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire against mandatory challenger Moruti Mthalane and an IBF light flyweight championship between Ulises Solis and former champion Brian Viloria plus a title defense by North American Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion. Arum also said he planned to feature Mexican warrior Jorge Arce on the card at the plush Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino.
Arum has now reportedly set a date other than the previously announced October 11. This means Arum clearly changed his mind which is a promoter?s privilege provided it doesn?t disrupt the training schedule of the fighters.
Donaire himself said he planned to arrive in Manila early next week to begin training at the famed ALA Gym where he trained for his previous title defense against Luis Maldonado which Donaire won by an impressive eighth round TKO last December 1.
