The official draw for the boxing event at the Beijing Olympic Games will be held on August 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom of Asia Hotel in Beijing.
The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) announced that the draw will be done manually in order to ?provide an exciting and thrilling demonstration of boxers? bouts in each weight category.?
AIBA Advisory Council members and 12 International Olympic Committee members will conduct the draw with the support of both the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee and the AIBA headquarters office.
34 referees and judges have been selected to officiate in the boxing events which will be held in the Workers Gymnasium . The list was completed following two AIBA Olympic Referees and Judges workshops in China and Taiwan last month.
AIBA said that a requirement for the Olympic referees and judges who were selected last April 4 was to participate in the workshops and to ?display a commendable level of competence during the practical workshop? held during the President?s Cup in Chinese-Taipei which was held from May 25 to 31.
Under the quota system each country has one official with China as host nation having three.
Veteran Rogelio Fortaleza has been chosen as the Philippine representative among the referees and judges.
