Dr. Allan Recto.
Respected Filipino physician, Dr. Allan Recto who lives in Texas, will be in the corner of North American Boxing Federation super bantamweight Bernabe Concepcion in his next fight.
The promising young fighter sees action on the undercard of the welterweight battle between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on July 26.
Dr. Recto who is a World Boxing Council ringside physician informed us that he will serve as cutman when Aljoe Jaro?s find takes on an opponent who has still to be named.
WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman who hosted Dr. Recto and Philippine boxing judge/journalist Alex Vidal at a luncheon in Mexico City had nothing but praise for Dr. Recto in an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports saying ?he is a very nice person.?
Dr. Recto earlier handled the medical requirements of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in preparation for his July 6 ?Lethal Combination? battle with David Diaz which Pacquiao won with a smashing ninth round stoppage.
The ringside physician was also interested in finding out what the WBC planned to do next in the controversial battle for the vacant featherweight title between Humberto Soto and Francisco Lorenzo after the WBC nullified referee Joe Cortez? decision awarding the fight to Lorenzo on a disqualification.
The interest of Dr. Recto was sparked by reports that Soto, who is also handled by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum was a possible opponent for Pacquiao later this year if the planned lightweight title defense of Pacquiao against undefeated KO artist Edwin Valero doesn?t push through.
Dr. Recto also met with Philippine ambassador to Mexico Antonio Lagdameo who described Pacquiao as ?one in a million? and said he believes Pacquiao is ?unbeatable.?
