Mexican boxer Isaías "El Artillero" Rodríguez passed away five days after suffering a severe brain injury on May 30th during a fight against Juan Carlos Zelaya "El Gallito" in the municipality of Cuatro Ciénegas. He had been hospitalized at IMSS Clinic Number Seven in Monclova, where he remained in intensive care for the last few days following emergency surgery early Sunday morning. He was unable to overcome the complications arising from the injury.
Social media mobilized in support, and fundraisers were organized, along with collection centers set up to receive donations, as hopes remained for his recovery.
Rodríguez had completed his studies as an Industrial Mechanical Engineer at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, where he graduated with honors.
"El Artillero" Rodríguez lived in the city of Castaños, Coahuila, and was highly regarded by the community.
Rest in peace, good Isaias Rodriguez. You gave your best for your family and for boxing.
