SMEP, SAEP round 6 standoff in PTC WED NEMO 4th D’ Engineers Chess Cup

The Society of Metallurgical Engineers of the Philippines (SMEP) supported by International Chess Friends Federation (ICFF) tied score at 65-all at end of one and a half hour arena chess battle against the Society of Aerospace Engineers of the Philippines (SAEP) which is backed by GMG Chess Club.

SMEP-ICFF ruled the pre-tournament last January but will be relegated for battle for 4th while the SAEP-GMG assured themselves to compete in the final 3-team championship with league leading IIEE Singapore ad PIChE-Mapua.

The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) won over the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) tying them at same win-loss record of 2-4 joining SMEP-ICFF in top 6. The Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines (GEP)-Faeldonia Philippines Chess Team and the Philippines Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE)- Filipino Chess Player League (FCPL) losses their round 6 versus PIChe-Mapua and IIEE Singapore, respectively. PIChe-Mapua were led by NM Marlon Bernardino (13 points) and IM Idelfonso Datu (12 points) with 7 undefeated games each. Last round 7 is scheduled on February 27, 2026 10pm via LiChess platform with the final ranking at stakes which will be used for the seeding on the face to face battle scheduled on March 14, 2026 at IIEE Cubao.-Marlon Bernardino -
