Iligan tops in PEKAF Mindanao qualifying tourney

ILIGAN City tied Tagum City with 14 golds but garnered 10 silvers to win the over-all championships in the Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation [PEKAF] Mindanao Qualifying Tournament held last November 21 to 23 at the UP Mindanao in Davao City.

Iligan also earned five bronzes in the Arnis/Eskrima, Padded Point and the Single Stick competition.

Tagum settled for second with two silvers and one bronze.

Third was Butuan City with nine golds, seven silvers and seven bronzes.

Four players of Iligan each won two golds each - Franciz Gine Plaza [18-39/80-85kg], Ella Razel Mae Lara [18-39 female/60-65kg], Eda Jane Ladion [18-39 female/85-90kg] and Ryezel Angel Llorag [16-17 female/48-52kg].

The other Iligan gold medalist were Walter Sam Jr. [18-39/60-65kg], Via Rashiel Mae Lara [18-39/65-70kg], Steffi Mariel Rico [18-39], Sherwin Medel [18-39], Dianne Carla Manggas [16-17] and Chelsea Maunday Buhion [16-17]

Tagum, on the other hand, had three double-gold medalists Edrian Apostol [16-17/56-60kg], Arviel Relampagos [16-17/70-75kg] and Joane Pelone [16-17 female/60-65kg].

The other golds were Tyron Jake Pajar [16-17/52-56kg], Adrianne Kyle Oquendo [18-39/50-55kg], Noah Gonzales [18-39/70-75kg], Miguel Quilario [18-39/75-89kg], Harrison Cerillo [18-39/+95kg], Troy Viva [16-17/65-70kg], Alyzza Grace Gacang [16-17/52-56kg] and Lailah Mae Amoren [16-17/90-95kg].

The tournament was organized by Grand Master Mario Palazuelo.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, president of PEKAF led the opening with special guest Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports.
