ORLANDO, FL (September 2, 2025) – Cuban-born super welterweight Yoelvis “La Joya” Gomez (9-1, 7 KOs), who is co-promoted with Boxlab Promotions and Warriors Boxing, captured his first regional title on Friday, August 22, with a hard-earned majority decision victory over the tough and talented Edwine Humaine (9-2, 7 KOs). The 10-round battle took place at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida, and was featured on MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects 14 card. The fight was streamed live on DAZN, further elevating Gomez’s growing profile in the 154-pound division.

From the opening bell, the action never slowed down. Both fighters exchanged heavy leather and had strong moments throughout the fight. But it was Gomez’s superior conditioning and relentless pressure in the later rounds that earned him the edge on two of the three scorecards, with judges scoring it 96-94, 97-93, and 95-95, awarding Gomez the majority decision and the WBA Continental Latin America title.

The win represented a significant point in Gomez's career, and at age 27, Gomez acknowledged its importance. “It was a war in there, and I respect Humaine for pushing me like that,” said Gomez after the fight. “But when the last bell rang, I knew I had done enough. I bit down, I pushed harder in those final rounds, and that’s what got me the win. Winning this title felt amazing—it’s my first step toward a world championship. This win puts me on the map. It opens doors and shows people I’m ready to go to that next level.”

Still, despite the win, Gomez made it clear he’s not getting comfortable. “I’m going straight back to the gym. There’s a lot I can improve, and I want to be better every time I step into that ring,” he added. “My goal is clear—I want to climb the rankings and get my shot at a world title. Whatever it takes, I’m all in.”

With momentum on his side and a new title around his waist, Gomez is eager to return to action as soon as possible. “I want to fight again before the year ends,” Gomez concluded. “Give me whoever’s next—I’m telling my promoters I’m ready. Let’s keep moving forward.”

Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions, praised Gomez’s grit and composure in a fight that tested every ounce of his will and talent. Now holding the WBA Continental Latin America title, Gomez is positioned for bigger opportunities—and Piedra is ready to guide him through the next phase of his journey. “Yoelvis showed the heart of a true contender against Humaine,” Piedra said. “It wasn’t an easy fight, but that’s exactly the kind of experience he needed. He answered every challenge and proved he has the toughness and drive to go far. With this title, Yoelvis moves into a new tier of competition. We’ll look to match him smartly but aggressively. He has the ability to compete with top contenders in the super welterweight division, and I believe he’ll be in the world title conversation very soon.”
