THE Pythons Pit Davao and Primo Martial Arts won five golds and three silvers in the 2Nd Mindanao Invitational Judo Championship held August 23-23 at the Mintal Gym in Davao City.

Veteran Lloyd Anthony Abucayan outmaneuvered William Maximus of Cagayan de Oro Judo Club to win the men’s senior advance +100KG.

He had to beat Maximus thrice since there were two of them only.

Abucayan first beat Maximus via ground Ippon pin.

In the second match, Maximus was disqualified or Hansokomaki because he was always just waiting for Abucayan’s throws and only plans to counter.

In Abucayan's third match, he used a Hip throw and Ground pin Ippon over Maximus.

Abucayan again retained his throne in Kadayawan Festival in 2013. He won it also in 2017 and 2019.

“And also I got injured on my left calf while playing judo,” said Abucayan, who is the founder of Reality Fighting League (RFL), which is a premier force in mixed martial arts.

The other gold medalists were Calvin Quinn Posadas -78KG (Juvenile), Juan Anino -66KG (Juvenile), Shindel Alojipan Manrique -44KG (Cadet) and Sophia Estapia - -40KG (Cadet).

The silver medals were cadet’s John Broncano [-66KG] and Sophia Estapia [-46KG] and juvenile’s Eunice Vienna Abucayan Rozaldo [+78KG] while the bronzes were Shindel Alojipan Manrique [-48KG] and Vanryl Cantil [-55KG].

The event was organized by Southern Mindanao Judo Association in celebration of the Kadayawan Festival.

It was sponsored by the City Government of Davao.
