SUPER lightweight Jino “The Silent Beast” Rodrigo of Antipolo City will challenge undefeated Cain “Sugar’ Sandoval of United States in a non-title 10-round fight on October 3 at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.

“I'm okay, I am conditioning myself even more,” said 28-year-old Rodrigo [13-5-2, 11KOs].

He is training at Valverde Boxing Gym owned by Coach Daniel Valverde from Mexico.

Rodrigo’s manager is Mirlo de Castro while his trainer is former pro Aljoe Jaro of Iloilo.

Rodrigo lost in his last fight to Rusian Abdullev by a unanimous decision last April 19 at the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside.

But he earlier scored a 1st round knockout win against undefeated Mathew Gonzalez [15-0-1] of Puerto Rico last March 8 at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

Rodrigo had his first fight in the US on June 29, 2024 against Elvis Rodriguez of Dominican Republic.

Rodriguez, who is from Top Rank, won by a unanimous decision.

Rodrigo, who went back to the Philippines, returned to the US last February.

“I am happy and excited for this match. We are finally face to face and fight a high-caliber opponent,” said Rodrigo

Rodrigo, who is now 149 lbs. has been offered to fight Sandoval but could not accommodate it due to the always two weeks notice.

“Now, I have been training for almost four months, so we are prepared for him,” said Rodrigo.

Rodrigo currently spar with different nationalities and sometimes go to different boxing gym clubs.

“Right now, I am really ready. What I can say about my opponent is that he is skilled, strong, and brave because he has also defeated some Filipinos,” said Rodrigo.

Sandoval knocked out Butuan’s Mark Bernaldez [4th round] and Cotabato’s Romero Duno [6th round].

“But I was not intimidated by that because it is no longer new to me to fight someone like him,” said Rodrigo.

Rodrigo said: “That's why I am working harder in training. I know our fight on October 3 will be great.”
