All fighters successfully made weight Friday afternoon at the official weigh-in ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated RING III fight card at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City, promoted by The Ring magazine and Golden Boy Promotions and broadcast live on DAZN. The event features six bouts, headlined by a super middleweight showdown between Edgar Berlanga and Hamzah Sheeraz.
In the main event, both Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) of Lithia, Florida, and the undefeated Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) from Ilford, Essex, UK, tipped the scales at 167.6 lbs for their 12 rounds scheduled super middleweight bout and is expected to produce fireworks, with both fighters known for their punching power.
The co-main event features an exciting clash for the WBC lightweight title. Undefeated American star Shakur Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) of Houston, Texas came in at the 135 lbs limit, while fellow unbeaten contender William Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs) of San Mateo, Mexico weighed slightly under at 134.6 lbs. With both men known for their speed and precision, fans are expecting a tactical war with world title implications.
In another title bout, the WBC super lightweight championship will be on the line as Alberto Puello (24-0, 10 KOs) from Las Vegas, originally from the Dominican Republic, faces Puerto Rican knockout artist Subriel Matías (22-2, 22 KOs). Puello weighed in at 139.8 lbs while Matías hit the scale at an even 140 lbs. The matchup pits Puello’s slick boxing against Matías’s punishing power.
Also on the card is a 10-round light heavyweight bout featuring Cuban standout David Morrell (11-1, 9 KOs), who weighed 174.8 lbs, against Russian powerhouse Imam Khataev (10-0, 9 KOs), who matched him on the scale at 174.8 lbs. This evenly matched bout between two big punchers is being touted as a potential fight of the night.
Opening the DAZN broadcast will be a four-round lightweight contest between Japanese prospect Reito Tsutsumi (1-0), who weighed 134.6 lbs, and New Jersey’s Michael Ruiz (2-7-1), who came in at 134.8 lbs.
In the first fight of the night, Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Alakel (4-0, 136.8 lbs) takes on Placido Hoff (2-3-1, 135.2 lbs) of Providence, Rhode Island in a six-round super lightweight clash.
With all fighters making weight and tensions high, the stage is now set for an electrifying night of boxing action in the heart of New York City.
