Sasotize teams champion and 1st runner up in 2nd JCI Senate Chess Tourney

Lipa City, Batangas---The Sasotize Miko and Sasotize Yana had similar match points of 19 for its 6 wins and 1 draw in the 7-swiss 3x3 team competition of the 2nd JCI Senate Chess Tournament held in Lipa Academy of Sports Culture and Arts, Barangay Dagatan in Lipa City, Batangas last Sunday, June 15,2025.

Sasotize Miko emerged as champion having higher game points 17.5-16.5 and Sasotize Yana settled for 1st runner up among 80 teams that participated.

FM David Elorta had a perfect score of 7 winning against Ted Francis Casumbal of Plato Wraps team B, Vince Duane Pascual of UST team C, FM Jethro Dino Aquino of Aklan Archers, Sherwin Tiu of Hiraya, GM Darwin Laylo of UST Hermida B, IM Ronald Dableo of UST Hermida A and Kevin Arquero of Sasotize Tiratira Army.
FM Elorta teammates, AGM Avazbek Ishbaev of Uzbekistan scored 6.5 and Vladimir Gonzales scored 4 points.

Team Sasotize Yana is composed of Jerry Areque who also scored 7 pts, Gary Legaspi and Mark Bravo.

Completing the top 10 are UST A led by Jan Clifford Labog, Mark Gerald Reyes and AIM Gabriel Ryan Paradero, (3rd), Hiraya Manawari of IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia, board 2 gold medallist Narcisco Gumila Jr. , Clefzon Limpo and team manager Ching Rabina (4th), UST Hermida A of IM Dableo, NM Vince Angelo Medina and Paul Sanchez (5th), Hiraya of Tiu , NM Bob Jones Liwagon and Ronald Hermida(6th), UST C of Pascual (7th), NRG 2 of Jerich Cajeras (8th), Chess for Good of Allan Cantonjos (9th) and IIEE Popeye of NM Fritz Bryan Porras, Julian Paul Quirubin and Eric Frigillana (10th).

Top Batangas team is Perezian Lipa led Robert James Perez, top college is UST B led by Lee Roi Palma, top High school is UST Boys led by Jian Carlo Rivera, top ladies is Goldenmind with Jersey Marticio who won versus IM Dableo, Top 1800 & Below is RAF Goldenmind with Chester Agsamosam, son of IIEE George and top 1950 & Below is IIEE Titans with NM Marc Nazario, June Angelo Dultra and Lance Caubang.

Sasotize teams are assembled by IIEE Mapua team captain Bren Sasot. His effort to cluster best players in a team paid off as he did during the opening round of the IIEE National Chess Olympiad season 7 last June 6 where IM Michael Concio Jr. led the IIEE Mapua as champion and led all scorer for the round with 22 points out of 198 output by the team together with IM Idelfonso Datu. IIEE Mapua bested Faeldon Chess team Philippines, IIEE Iloilo and IIEE Metro East in level 3 team battle via LiChess, Other opening round champions are PSME chess club in level 1 led by NM Aglipay 8 Oberio, IIEE Metro Manila in level 2 with NM Nazario and IM Chito Garma, Filipino Chess Player League-Qatar in level 4 with FM Elorta, GM Laylo and NM Bob Jones Liwagon and IIEE Singapore in level 5 with FM Alekhine Nouri and FM Narquingden Reyes. Round 2 will be on June 20 at 10pm and will continue every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month until the championship round on November 28, 2025. Awarding ceremony will be held in SMX MOA on November 29, 2025 during the closing of the 50th IIEE Annual National Convention and 3EXPO.-Marlon Bernardino-
