During the 7th IIEE National Electrical Safety Summit held in Baguio, Candidate Master (CM) Romy Fagon won in a tie-break with three others to capture the championship of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines Inc. (IIEE) Northern Regional Elimination chess tournament last May 23, 2025, at Podium Boutique Hotel in Baguio City.

Fagon, a former mainstay of the Far Eastern University chess team during his college days, won his first match versus Cocoy Brendan, then dropped the next game to 13-year-old Baguio Kid wonder Sebastian Damonsong.

Fagon, the pride of Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, bounced back to win all his remaining games versus former IIEE Vice President of Baguio Chapter Carlo Bentayan, National Master Gary Villanueva, and Willy Sao-an.

After beating Damonsong, Conrado Agaton III had the chance to win it all but bowed to NM Villanueva, which created the multiple tie.

Fagon, Agaton, Villanueva, and Damonsong placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively, after applying the tie-breaks.

In the international Bundesliga online chess tournament, National Master Marc Christian Nazario led the IIEE Chessmasters team to a championship in Level 3 with 59 points. He beat FIDE Master Harald Lögdahl of Sweden twice, the 2024 Dala Open chess champion. The online IIEE National Golden Chess Olympiad Season 7 will be starting on June 6 and end on November 21. The games will be every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month with 20 participating teams. U.S. National Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. is expected anew to lead the IIEE Metro Central Chapter (MMC) in this chess olympiad. MMC will also host the Metro Manila Region Chess Tournament slated for the 2nd week of July. CM Fagon, NM Nazario, and NM Bernardino are players of the IIEE-PSME Quezon City Simba’s Tribe, who are playing in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines.

On May 25, 2025, in the Business Professional Basketball League, the IIEE Titans (7th season champion) beat Banzai (the 6th season champion), 82-71, for their 2nd in a row win. The Titans had beaten WeLink in their first game and currently share the lead in the CEO Cup tournament with a 2-0 record. -Marlon Bernardino-
