FORMER world champion Marlon “Nightmare” Tapales of Lanao del Norte stopped Jon Jon “Triple J” Jet of Indonesia in the 3rd round to win the vacant WBC International Silver super bantamweight title last night, April 27 at the Venue 88 in General Santos City.
The 33-year-old Tapales landed strong punches to damage the nose of Jet.
Jet, who is taller than Tapales, decided not to continue the fight after finishing the 3rd round.
Tapales, a former IBF World super bantamweight champion, went to Jet’s corner to check the condition of the Indonesian. The doctors also later check Jet’s situation.
It was Tapales’ 40th win and 21st knockout victory against four defeats while Jet suffered his only second defeat against 15 wins and one draw.
Meanwhile, Joey “The Babyface” Canoy of General Santos City stopped Minh Phat Sam of Vietnam in the final 10th round to claim the vacant WBC International minimumweight title.
The 31-year-old Canoy was more consistent in delivering his punches than Sam.
In the 10th round, Canoy was still landing his left-right punches when Sam’s corner stopped the fight.
The referee immediately halted the fight and declared Canoy the winner.
The ballroom boxing was promoted by JC Manangquil and Dexter Tan of Sanman Boxing.
It was sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board headed by Chairman Atty. Francisco Rivera.
