
ACTRESS AND PRODUCER SYDNEY SWEENEY NAMED 2025 BOXING HALL OF FAME WEEKEND PARADE OF CHAMPIONS GRAND MARSHAL

Sweeney, who will portray Hall of Famer Christy Martin in an upcoming motion picture, will lead parade through streets of Canastota on Sunday, June 8th
CANASTOTA, NY - APRIL 9, 2025 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today that the 2025 Boxing Hall of Fame Weekend Parade of Champions scheduled for Sunday, June 8th at 12 noon will be led by actress and producer Sydney Sweeney.
An accomplished actress and producer, the multi-talented Sweeney has appeared in critically acclaimed television series and motion pictures. Her credits include The Handmaids Tales, Euphoria, Sharp Objects, The White Lotus, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Reality, Immaculate and Anyone But You. She has also hosted Saturday Night Live and starred in a music video for The Rolling Stones. Later this year she will bring the story of Hall of Famer Christy Martin to the big screen in an upcoming movie. In addition to the Martin biopic, other upcoming projects include Echo Valley, Eden, Americana and The Housemaid.
“I am thrilled to be named grand marshal of the International Boxing Hall of Fame Weekend Parade of Champions,” said Sweeney. “I’ve become close to the sport of boxing by portraying Christy Martin and bringing life to her incredibly inspiring story. Now I’m thrilled to be leading the parade featuring so many great champions in ‘Boxing’s Hometown’ Canastota, NY.”
The Parade of Champions, set for Sunday, June 8th at 12 noon, will pass through the streets of Canastota. In addition to the grand marshal and boxing stars, the parade will also feature pageant caliber bands, drum & bugle corps, pipe bands, floats and community organizations.
“The news that actress Sydney Sweeney will be this year’s International Boxing Hall of Fame Weekend Parade of Champions Grand Marshal has me over the top excited. I was so honored to be the Grand Marshal in 1996 and now for Sydney, who just completed the movie about my life, taking on the honor to lead the parade for 2025 is big news and I’m thrilled!” said Hall of Famer Christy Martin.
Among an impressive list of over 35 boxing greats from the United States and abroad scheduled to attend include returning Hall of Famers Christy Martin, Felix “Tito” Trinidad, Erik Morales, Michael Spinks, Jim Lampley and special guests Gerry Cooney, Nonito Donaire, Amir Khan, Kelly Pavlik, Ray Mercer, “Irish” Micky Ward and many more.
“Sydney Sweeney is one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars. Whether on the silver screen or on television she has captivated fans around the world,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. “Boxing fans are eagerly anticipating her upcoming portrayal of legendary Hall of Famer Christy Martin in a major motion picture set to be released later this year. The Hall of Fame is so happy to roll out the red carpet and welcome her to Canastota to celebrate the sport of boxing.”
The Class of 2025 to be honored includes boxers Manny Pacquiao, Vinny Paz, Michael Nunn, Yessica Chavez, Anne Sophie Mathis, Mary Jo Sanders, Cathy “Cat” Davis, Rodrigo Valdez (posthumous), Owen Swift (posthumous), referee Kenny Bayless,cut man Al Gavin (posthumous),referee Harry Gibbs (posthumous), broadcaster / journalist Randy Gordon and television producer Ross Greenburg.
The Class of 2025 will be honored during the Hall of Fame Induction Weekend on June 5-8 in “Boxing’s Hometown.” In addition to the Parade of Champions, the weekend will also feature many events in Canastota and nearby Turning Stone Resort Casino throughout the four-day celebration including ringside talks, fist casting, fight night, 5K race / fun run, boxing autograph card show, banquet and induction ceremony.
