IIEE Quezon reigns supreme in season 6 of the IIEE National Chess Olympiad

After almost 6 months of grueling nights in the lichess platform, IIEE Quezon emerged on top and the Champion of the Season 6 besting 19 other teams such as Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME), Institute of Electronic Engineers (IECEP), Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines (GEP), Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) and various teams of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE Mindanao, IIEE Western Visayas, IIEE Iloilo, IIEE Eastern Central Visayas, IIEE Southern Laguna, IIEE Northern Luzon, IIEE Bicol, IIEE United Arab Emirates, IIEE State of Qatar, IIEE Saudi, IIEE Singapore, IIEE Metro South, IIEE Metro East, IIEE Metro West and IIEE Metro Central). The tournament started last September 13, 2024 and ended on March 2, 2025.

IIEE Quezon was undefeated in its regular playoff run winning all with wide margins versus IIEE Singapore (64-32), IIEE Western Visayas (67-32) and runner up IIEE Metro Central (67-23). They also capture the championship of the in-season winning convincingly versus IIEE Western Visayas (56-21), IIEE Singapore (52-27 and IIEE Saudi (61-28). The most valuable player of the tournament is Chester Neil Reyes scoring at will and undefeated with total 93 points. For the runner up IIEE Metro Central, NM Marlon Bernardino is the highest scorer with total of 71 points. Other contributors of the IIEE Quezon for the tournament are Kelly Rancap (79), Narquingel Reyes (60), IM Michael Concio Jr. (53), Owen Hari (46), FM Mark Jay Bacojo (37), Nephtali Bantang (34), Jason Par (30), Reymond Ompod (29), Christian Mark Daluz (28), Rigor Pedernal (20), Mark Gerald Reyes (19), team captain Jampol Crispo (11), Sherwin Tiu (9), Lee Roi Palma (9), FM Ellan Asuela , Arvie Tombo , Mark Alvin Villareal (4), Vincent Palmiery (2) and Jherome Villaflor (2).

The awarding of winners will be held on March 8 at Koten Gym in Pasay during the 3rd D’ Engineers Cup chess tournament of the PTC World Engineering Day. The 2nd Armageddon Battle of Champions will also be held with the champions and runner ups of the Armageddon tournaments held in Bicol, Laoag Ilocos Sur, Sta. Rosa Laguna and in Manila. Notable players qualified to compete are GM Joey Antonio, IM Chito Garma, IM Jose Efren Bagamasbad, NM Marlon Bernardino, NM Romeo Alcodia, NM Gerald Ferriol, NM Jojo Aquino and other master caliber players among others are Sherwin Tiu, Jeremy Marticio, Fred Paez, Reymond Ompad, etc. Dignitaries are also invited as guest and to do side play among each other led by CIDG Director Nicolas Torre III, Sto, Tomas Pangasinan Mayor Dickerson Villar, BEE Chairman Francis Mapile, Jeff Bugayong, Hon. Leo Tito Ausan Jr. and Judge Gonzalo Mapili Director National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, TC-WED and National Engineering Month opened with Plant-a-million tree at La Mesa Ecopark.

The annual celebration of the Philippine Technological Council – World Engineering Day (PTC-WED) which coincide with the 1st National Engineering Month (NEMO) started with a Tree planting activities hosted by the Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers (PSABE) last March 1, 2025 at La Mesa Eco Park, Greater Lagro, Quezon City. The Planting and Growing of Palosapis Tree was participated by different Engineering Professional Organizations in the country such as PSABE, the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE), Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME), Institute of Electronic Engineers (IECEP), Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines (GEP), Society of Aerospace Engineers of the Philippines (SAEP), Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) and Society of Metallurgical Engineers of the Philippines (SMEP). “Plant a million trees, one sapling at a time. Together, we’re shaping a greener tomorrow” say Engr. Hazel Reyes of PSABE. Done in the same day and venue was the Technical Seminar on Flood Management and Mitigation Seminar organized by PICE. PTC-Young Engineers Section (YES) continuous with its annual Project Pakamat for the Aeta community of Bagac, Bataan.

PTC is a National Member of various international engineering organizations such as the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) and the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (AFEO) which advocate international recognition of engineering qualifications and engineering mobility. With the representation of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), UNESCO during its 40th General Conference in 2019 proclaimed the 4th of March every year as the World Engineering Day (WED) and has been celebrated worldwide every year since 2020. WED highlights engineering and engineers’ achievements and contributions to sustainable development and modern life. Hence on March 4, the PTC Women Engineers Network (WEN) will conduct Sustainable Energy Forum for students of Far Eastern University Diliman.

The month long event includes various sports such as Chess (March 8 at Koten Gym Pasay City), Pickleball (March 8 at FCIE Sport Center, Dasmarinas Cavite), Basketball (March 8, 15, 22, 23, 29 and 30 at Mariana Community Center, Q.C), Golf (March 15 at Veterans Memorial Golf Course), Dart (March 16 at Tiendesitas, Pasig), Bowling and Billiards (March 22 at Gateway II Cubao) and Fun Run
(March 23 around SM MOA). The culmination will be in Abu Dhabi UAE with International Sports Festival on March 30 and International Technical Seminar on April 5-6.-Marlon Bernardino-
