REIGNING World Boxing Council [WBC] World minimumweight champion Melvin “El Gringo” Jerusalem of Bukidnon has been training harder to beat Yudai Shigeoke of Japan.

“I have been training harder than before the first time I beat Shigeoke,” said Jerusalem, who is training under coach Michael Domingo in Cebu.

The rematch will be held in Japan in March.

The 30-year-old Jerusalem beat Shigeoka by split decision last March 31, 2024 at the International Conference Hall in Nagoya, Japan.

Jerusalem has been sparring with boxers from different gyms including WBO Asian Silver light flyweight champion Christian “The Bomb” Araneta [25-2-0, 20KOs] of Mandaue City.

“I will try harder to win again,” said Jerusalem, who last fought against Mexico’s Luis Castillo by a unanimous decision last September 22, 2024 in Mandaluyong City.

Jerusalem has 23 wins, three loses and 12 knockouts while 27-year-old Shigeoke has nine wins, one loss and five knockouts.
