Takada upsets Kobayashi to win WBC Asia Pacific title

JAPANESE Yuni Takada of Tokyo scored an upset over compatriot Goki Kobayashi via a split decision to grab the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title last Friday night, January 24 at the Ariaka Arena in Koto-Ku, Tokyo.

The 26-year-old Takada got the scores of 116-111 from Thai judge Surat Splikrachang and 114-113 from Pinoy lawyer-judge Danrex Tapdasan.

Only the score of judge Tetsuya Iida [113-114] favored by Kobayashi.

Takada, who was born in the Philippines, now has 16 wins against eight loses and three draws while Kobayashi suffered his only second setback against eight wins.

Meanwhile, Naoya Inoue of Japan scored a knockout on Ye Joon Kim of South Korea in the 4th round to remain undefeated and the reigning IBF, WBC and WBO World super bantamweight champion.

Jin Sasaki beat Shoki Sakai by a unanimous decision to retain his OPBF welterweight title and WBC Asia Pacific welterweight title in the main supporting bout.

Hideyuki Ohashi of Ohashi Promotions was the promoter.
