FORMER world champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas of Panabo City will fight Richie “Magnum” Mepranum of Maasim, Sarangani for the vacant Philippine super bantamweight title on January 25 at the Public Plaza in Iligan City.

The 33-year-old Ancajas is rated no. 2 contender by the Games and Amusement Board while Mepranum is ranked no. 4.

Both of them are southpaws.

“Richie is a good boxer. He was big and I used to be small but we were amateurs at the same time,” said Ancajas [35-4-2, 23KOs].

Ancajas was with Panabo City while Mepranum fought for the Sarangani team.

“It is a good fight because Richie is also a good boxer but I’m focused on my training,” said Ancajas.

Ancajas, who is okay with his weight, said there is no plan yet to fight for a world title.

Ancajas recently stopped former IBF Pan Pacific champion Sukpasried Ponphitak of Thailand in the 5th round last October 22, 2024 in Mandaluyong City.

But Ancajas earlier suffered a 9th round knockout against Japan’s Takuma Inoue last February 24 in Kokugikan, Japan.

Ancajas won his first IBF World super flyweight title by beating McJoe Arroyo last September 3, 2016 in Taguig City.

He then defended it eight times before he lost it to Argentina’s Fernando Daniel Martinez by a unanimous decision last February 26, 2022 in Las Vegas.

Ancajas again failed to win it back in a rematch with Martinez by a unanimous decision last October 6 in Carson.

The 37-year-old Mepranum [38-9-1, 12KOs], on the other hand, had a lone fight last year – a unanimous decision victory against Kim Lindog of Bukidnon last August 26 at the Almendras Gym in Davao City.

The Ancajas-Mepranum fight is the main event of promoter Clarissa Jimenez of RCJ Promotions.

Six other bouts will be added in the free boxing event at the public plaza.
