
NM Ilar rules 7th Nova Onas Rapid chess tilt

Seasoned woodpusher and National Master Keith Adriane Ilar emerged as the champion in the 7th Nova Onas Rapid Chess Tournament Open Category last Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Robinsons Place Valencia City, Bukidnon.
Ilar, the pride of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental pocketed the P4,000 purse and the trophy for ruling the tournament which fielded in over 70 woodpushers.
He had a perfect campaign after tallying 7.0 points in the seven-round Swiss system competition.
Ilar defeated Harry King Operio, Kassandra Day Tadeo, Jayson Jhon Paquera, Cassey Miguel Tabamo, Ronnel Rempohito, Nazario Ubanan and Jerieñ Manlimbana.
The 14 years old, Grade 9 student of St. Joseph Academy of El Salvador also won the High School division of the 1st Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy and Kap. Ranier Joaquin Kikang "Kapkik" Uy Christmas Chess Tournament last December 14-15,2024 at Bulua City Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.
Ubanan and Tabamo, meantime settled for second and third places with 6.0 points apiece.
Ubanan's second place earned him P2,000 and a medal while Tabamo received P1,000 and a medal.
"I am very happy to win this tough Open rapid chess tournament. I would like to thank Mam Nova Onas for supporting Philippine chess," said Ilar.
The fourth to 10th placers were Joselito Mortel (5.5 points), Juan Ryu Baconoc (5.5 points), Jeffrey Pascual (5.0 points), Manlimbana (5.0 points), Randolf Christopher Dalauta (5.0 points), Ronie Pujas (5.0 points) and Kurt Jobem Okit (5.0 points).
The 10 minutes plus 3 seconds rapid time control format are jointly organized by Nolly Cabilas and John Ian Barroso, backed up by Nova Onas, a Filipino Australian actor born and raised in the Philippines. She has been in Sydney, Australia since 2018. From 2019, she has pursued her various passion in the areas of acting, modeling and fashion photography and videography.
