Lightweight Jimrex Jaca (28-4-3, 13 KO?s) who was being touted as a genuine prospect after his gallant nine-round stand against Juan Manuel Marquez but has since been a disappointment, seeks to regain lost glory when he battles former WBA super featherweight champion Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai in Thailand on Friday.
Boxing writer Scott Mallon says that Nanthachai (55-3-1, 44 KO?s) who is ranked No. 8 by the WBA in the super lightweight division and No. 12 by the WBC and IBF at lightweight ?is ready to make another run at a world title.?
Mallon said that when asked whether there was a champion he preferred to fight Nanthachai replied ?I don?t care who I fight or whether its at 135 or 140 pounds. I?ll fight anyone. I just want a title fight.?
In other fights on the same card JR Sollano (13-7, 9 KO?s) who is coming off a ten round unanimous decision over touted Japanese Hiroshige Osawa after suffering a 4th round TKO at the hands of South Africa?s Ali Funeka who fights Zahir Raheem in a title eliminator on July 5, faces undefeated Kietyongyuth (14-0, 10 KO?s) for the vacant Asian Boxing Council title.
Mallon reports that the Thai a "superb prospect" is hoping to land a bout with Australian-based Ranee Ganoy who is seeing action on a July 19 fight card in Cebu City.
The Philippines Javier Malulan (12-3, 7 KO?s) will take on 39 year old Thai veteran Pramuansak Posuwan (42-1-1, 22 KO?s) in one of the supporting bouts. Posuwan has won 13 fights in a row after losing a twelve round decision in a WBO super flyweight title bout against Fernando Montiel on October 29, 2005. Malunan won by a third round TKO over Wendell Cajoles last May 17.
