Pound for pound star Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez made short work of Pedro Guevarra by stopping veteran Mexican campaigner Pedro Guevarra in the 3rd round of their 12-round scheduled WBC superfly world title fight at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA Saturday night (Sunday in Manila).
Rodriguez, 24, pressured Guevarra, 35, from the getgo as the Mexican carefully boxed to evade lefty Bam's bombs at the same time targeting Rodriguez's body. In the second round Bam continued his relentless pressure as both fighters trade punches but Bam connected with a hard uppercut to the body and a left cross to the head. Meanwhile Guevarra continued to target the body.
In the third round, as Guevarra targeted the body, Rodriguez countered with a powerful left straight that sent Guevarra to the canvas for the first time. Guevarra beat the count but Rodriguez then came in strong and landed a lethal uppercut to send Guevarra again to the canvas spitting his mouthpiece as Referee Ricky Gonzalez didn't bother to count and wave off the fight for a TKO victory by Rodriguez. Time of the stoppage: 2:47 in the third round.
Rodriguez remains undefeated and upped his record to 21-0-0, 14KOs while Guevarra, who got stopped for the first time in his career, dropped to 42-5-1, 22KOS.
