
IM Bagamasbad to banner GM Balinas Fide Rated Open rapid chess

Manila---International Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad will spearhead a strong cast clashing in the Grandmaster Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr.  Fide Rated Open Chess Championship that gets underway on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at the Pavilion Mall, Greenfield District in Mandaluyong City, beside MRT Shaw Boulevard Station along Edsa.
The 68-year-old Bagamasbad looms as the player to beat in the seven-round Swiss system tournament.
"I hope to do well in this event, the Grandmaster Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr.  Fide Rated Open Chess Championship," said Bagamasbad, the reigning back-to-back Asian Senior 65 over category champion.
The event, sponsored by Dr. Joe balinas, Engr. Antonio Balinas and Balinas family, offers a total top prize of P50,000 with the lion share getting the top purse of P15,000.
Others vying in the event, backed up by Atty. Juman Paa, AGM Reu Gabriel Sebolino of Sicilian Prodigy, Wagish Rai of IntChess Asia and IDIM DIY Bakery, are IM Chito Garma and FM Mario Mangubat.
Bagamasbad, Garma and Mangubat are the country's representatives in the upcoming Fide World Senior Chess Championship to be held on November 16 to 29 in Porto Santo, Portugal.
Other notable masters participating in the event organized by Bayanihan Chess Club founding president NM Almario Marlon Bernardino jr. are IM Michael Concio Jr., IM Chris Ramayrat, WIM Kylen Joy Mordido, FM Ivan Travis Cu, FM Randy Segarra, NM Romeo Alcodia, NM Homer Cunanan , NM Davin Sean Romualdez and CM Genghis Imperial.
