Johnny Wellem Carzano rules NCFP FIDE rated Standard Tournament

Johnny Wellem Carzano was the winner of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines FIDE rated Standard Tournament held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the Philippine Academy Chess For Excellence in Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City.

Carzano finished with a perfect 5.0 points in the 5 rounds swiss system competition, applying 15 minutes plus 5 seconds increment time control format.

He beat Karl Friedrich Canalita in the first round, Justin Jed Ortillo in the second round, Danry Seth Romualdez in the third round, John Kenneth Gelua in the fourth round and French Cobi Francisco in the fifth round.

Arvie Tombo placed second with similar perfect 5.0 points while Apollo Agapay and Lance Nathaniel Orlina were tied at third to fourth placers with 4.5 points apiece.

"I am very happy with my victory because almost all the top players in Metro Manila and nearby provinces joined the tournament,' said Carzano, the pride of Misamis Occidental.

Rounding up to the top 10 were the fifth Freddie Talaboc, sixth Emmanuel Barbosa, seventh Frankel Angela Magpily, eight Joshua Hesed Crismo, ninth John Kenneth Gelua and tenth LJ Getubig.-Marlon Bernardino-
