John Randall Peralta rules Greenfield District rapid chess tilt

Mandaluyong City---Seasoned woodpusher John Randall Peralta of Antipolo City emerged as the champion in the Arman Chess Cup Kiddies Rapid Chess Tournament (12 years old and below) last Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Ground Floor, Pavilion Mall, Greenfield District, Mandaluyong City.

Randall pocketed the P4,000 purse and the trophy for ruling the tournament which fielded over 100 woodpushers.

He had a near-perfect campaign after tallying 6.5 points in the FIDE rated seven-round Swiss system competition which was supported by Greenfield District Retail Marketing Officer Dawn Suzette Adao Aguila and Marketing Coordinator Joana Sison.
Peralta defeated John Nichael Cruz , Kenzo Sanchez, AFM Caleb Loukas Picache-David, Marco Piolo Sanido, Gllasea Ann Hilario and Mikayla Tusi in the first and sixth rounds, respectively.

He snapped his six-match winning streak when he had a draw against Runhigh Yohan Instrella in the seventh round.

“I am very happy with my victory because almost all of the top players in Metro Manila and nearby provinces joined the tournament," said the 10 years old Peralta, a Grade 4 student of St. John's Wort Montessori.

In other results, Tusi bounced back by beating Keira Alexandria Aviso in the last round to catch ACM Joachim Thaddeus Manuel, who brought down Hilario.

Tusi’s second place finish earned him P3,000, while the third place went to Manuel with similar 6.0 points to earn P2,000.
Instrella, Karl Ashton Fratkin, Mark Jeross Albert, Ace Erwin Manalo and Kyler Marin Camonias finished the tournament with similar 5.5 points; while L-Mar Patubo, Hilario, Sanido, Nicholo Calix Acaban, I Jeric Mark Euterio Legaspi, Hannah Zechariah Ibe, Jad Owen Diamos, Cris Matheo Quimbao, Aizyleen Mack Lee have identical 5.0 points.

No less than tournament organizer Arman Salvador of Bords Haircut Hair Replacement System led the closing rites along with tournament director CM Genghis Imperial, Chief Arbiter NA Ranier Pascual, Deputy Chief Arbiter NA/NM Marlon Bernardino Jr., NA Miel Bautista, , Philippine Sports Expo President/CEO Michael Herrera and sportswriter Noli Sangil Cruz.

The next chess event line up is the GM Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Open Rapid Chess Tournament and the NM Gerald Ferriol GMG Chess Cup 14 years old and below on September 29 and the 3rd FM Angelito Camer Open Rapid Chess Tournament on October 27 at the same venue.
