Raquinel (L) and Frank collide in Mexico on Sep. 18.
CEBU, Philippines – Jay-R Raquinel and Norj Guro will have golden chances in Mexico. Headlining the thrilling event, skilled Pinoy southpaw "The Dreamer" Raquinel (16-2-1, 13 KO's) of Cauayan, Negros Occidental, will battle unbeaten 21-year-old Yahir Frank (17-0, 12 KO's) for the vacant WBC Silver Super Flyweight Belt on September 28 in Frank's hometown of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
Wanting to make himself known in that part of the world and eager to get closer to a world title challenge, warrior heart Raquinel will risk it all in travelling all the way to Mexico, putting his double world-ranking on the line.
Indeed. As of now, the Filipino is as high as WBC #5 and IBF #12 in the world rankings. The Mexican Frank is no-where in the ranking, wanting to get in there by beating Raquinel.
Will he be able to do so, taking those rankings by force? September 18, we’ll find out.
WOMEN BOXERS IN ACTION: FILIPINA NORJ GURO FIGHTS CAMILA ZAMORANO OF MEXICO
Meanwhile, in the co-main event, experienced Filipina former World Title Challenger Norj Guro (13-8-1, 4 KO's) of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, will clash against undefeated younger world-ranked Camila "La Magnífica" Zamorano (9-0, 1 KO) of Hermosillo, Sonora, for the vacant WBC Minimumweight Silver Title.
Norj Guro (L) and Camila Zamorano battle in co-feature of the Hermosillo card on Sep. 18, 2024.
A pro boxer for only over a year, Camila has shown a decent technique from her orthodox stance, although a lack of punching power.
Still, the cute youngster has boxed her way to win Mexico's local "Campeona Azteca" tournament.
In contrast, the more-seasoned Norj Guro, 34, has battled all over the world. Yes, the Mindanao fighter has even fought for a world title, and has reigned as WBC Silver and WIBA champion.
It is a match of youth versus experience, Diba? Then, who will win?
At the end of the night, will it be Raquinel and Guro managing to score exciting WBC Silver title wins on September 28 in Hermosillo, Mexico? Or will it be the other way around?
Truly, the two championship rumbles are important as the winners inch closer to fight for WBC world titles in their respective weight-classes; and who will the winners be?
The interesting world class event is promoted by Mexico's Zanfer Boxing in association with Akira Sakata's New Innovation and Highland Boxing Promotion LIVE on TV Azteca Canal 7 and the ABEMA App.
May the Best Ones Win!
