World Chess Olympiad-bound IM Daniel Quizon favorite in SM City-BF Parañaque chess tilt

Manila---All eyes are on World Chess Olympiad-bound Grandmaster-elect and International Master (IM) Daniel Quizon in pushing the “1st PMA Masikhay Class 99 Chess Tournament” to be held at the 3rd Level Wellness Space SM City- BF Parañaque on August 3.

The 19-year-old Quizon is sure to have a tough fight as heavy woodpushers have also announced their participation headed by GM Darwin Laylo, Candidate GM and IM Ronald Dableo, IM Michael Concio, Jr., FM Roel Abelgas, NM Jasper Faeldonia, NM Al Basher Buto, NM Mar Aviel Carredo, NM Karlycris Clarito Jr., NM Oshrie Jhames Reyes, CM Genghis Imperial, Atty. Rodolfo "Rudy" Rivera and Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez.

According to Dableo who is also the deputy tournament director while NM Marlon Bernardino is the tournament director, there is a P50,000 guaranteed prize in the event which is open to all Filipino and foreign chess players.

"We are excited to invite you to participate in our upcoming 1st PMA Masikhay Class 99 Chess Tournament. This event is open to all chess enthusiasts who want to test their skills and compete against other players,” said 2003 Vungtau, Vietnam Asian Zonal champion Dableo.

On Quizon's side, who will also represent the country in the 44th World Chess Olympiad that will begin on September 10 and end on the 23rd in Budapest, Hungary, he is coming from back to back wins.

Quizon reigned in the 2nd Gov. Henry S. Oaminal Open Rapid Chess Tournament at AYA Hotel and Residences in Clarin, Misamis Occidental on July 10 and championing the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Tour of Champions Grand Finals at Greenhills Mall in San Juan City on July 21.
