Camigue upsets Ligas, wins WBF Int’l superfly title

DAVAO CITY – Alvin “Tyson” Camigue of Davao City pulled up a devastating upset against former Philippine champion Ben “Sniper Fairtex” Ligas of Caloocan City via a second round knockout last June 22, Saturday at Cataingan, Masbate.

It was an upset win by Camigue, who first knocked down Ligas in the first round with a left jab in the midsection.

The 26-year-old Camigue then continued to hit Ligas on the body in the second round which finally ended the fight and earned him the vacant World Boxing Foundation International super flyweight title.

Camigue now has nine wins with four knockouts and two loses while 26-year-old Ligas suffered his fifth loss against 16 wins and two draws.

Meanwhile, former IBO world champion Michael Dasmarinas of Pili retired Jon Jon Estrada of Quezon in the 9th round to win the vacant Philippine featherweight title in the main event.

In the other fights, Esneth “Hard Hitter” Domingo of Sultan Kudarat scored a 1st round knockout against Enrique Magsalin of Iloilo to win the vacant WBC Asian Silver flyweight title while Alex Santisima Jr. of Cebu stopped Justine Darap of Manila in the 1st round to bag the vacant WBF Australasian super bantamweight title.

Antonio Kho is the promoter of the "Bakbakan sa Masbate 2nd Edition" with Art Monis as the matchmaker.
