P40,000 total cash in Chess Mates Open rapid chess tournament

Manila---A TOTAL cash prize of P40,000 is at stake in the Chess Mates Open rapid chess tournament set on Sunday, June 2, 2024, 10am at the 3rd floor Taft Central Mall beside Gil Puyat LRT station and SOGO Hotel in Pasay City.

United States Chess Master Arthur Macaspac bared this enjoining avid chess enthusiasts to join the tournament open for Filipinos and foreigners.

"We do this to promote chess at the grassroots level and to discover future chess talents and champions," said Macaspac, who hails from City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, a retired Major at U.S. Army and Former Culinary Specialist at U.S. Navy.

He said the champion will pocket P10,000, while the runner-up will take home P8,000 and the third placer will receive P6.000. The fourth and fifth players will claim P2,000 each, while the category winner for the top Senior, Under 14, Top Female, Top Under 2000 and Top Under 1800 will each get P2,000.

P1,500 each for all the players who will score 4.5 points in this 7 Round Swiss System, applying rapid time control of 15 minutes plus 5 seconds increment.

Defending champion is Kevin Erandio Arquero winning the Labor Day Chess Mates Open rapid chess tournament last May 1, 2024 with 6/7/.

Registration fees are pegged at P800 for advanced entry, P900 for onsite entry, P500 each for IM and kids entry while free registration for GM.
