Manila---A bunch of untitled players from Dasma Cavite Spartans could be the future of PCAP.
Dasma Cavite Spartans' grassroots development have discovered a new breed of potential talents in Glenn Aracena, Joel Delfin, Patrick Bonifacio, Philip Simon Din, Andrew Elpedes, Israel Landicho, Julie Ann Sulit and famous chess blogger Richard Cornell Manzano.
"We are very grateful to produce future champions and world class athletes in our Dasma Cavite Spartans grassroots," said coach Benjie Bercadez.
"They really wanted to follow the footsteps of our top players (Dasma Cavite Spartans)," he added.
Bannered by 13-time Philippine Open champion GM Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. and IM Michael Concio Jr., the Dasma Cavite Spartans failed to sustain their winning ways after losing to San Juan Predators in 2 sets, 9-12, and 9.5-11.5, in the semifinals Saturday night at Chess.com Platform.
Thus, San Juan arranged a Northern Division finals showdown against Manila Indios Bravos, winner over the defending champion Pasig City King Pirates in 2 sets, 13.5-7.5, and 14-7.
In the first set, Karl Victor Ochoa, GM Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla Jr., IM Ricardo de Guzman and FM Narquinden Reyes joined forces to beat Concio, IM Joel Banawa, Antonio and Alexis Emil Maribao, respectively.
San Juan beat Cavite in rapid play, 8-6, as well in the blitz game, 4-3.
In second set, San Juan led by Ochoa, WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda, FM Randy Segarra, Narquingel Reyes and a draw by FM Reyes edged Cavite, 4.5-2.5, in their blitz encounter.
However in the rapid play, San Juan held Cavite into a stand off, 7-all.
Other members of Cavite are IMs Daniel Quizon, Roderick Nava and Petronio Roca, WIMs Marie Antoinette San Diego and Kylen Joy Mordido, FMs Roel Abelgas, Carlos Edgardo Garma, Noel dela Cruz and Ivan Gil Biag, NMs Rommel Ganzon, Carlo Rosaupan and Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., AGM Voltaire Marc Paraguya, AIM Melizah Carreon, Kevin Arquero, Alfredo Rapanot, Kevin Mirano, Renie Malupa and Jayson Visca.
Meanwhile, Camarines Soaring Eagles and Toledo-Xignex Trojans will dispute the Southern Division finals.
Camarines and Toledo won their respective matches against Surigao Fianchetto Checkmates, 12.5-8.5, 9-12, and 2-1, and Davao Chess Eagles in 2 sets with a similar 14.5 - 6.5.
