No Celtic took the loss that deeply when Miami scorched Boston with 23 triples than Derrick White, considered as the fourth wheel in Celtics offense.
With Miami defense shutting down Kristap Porzingis and making life hard for Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown, White felt he could have done more than his 14 points and 4 rebounds.
Though the Celtics got back at Miami in the third game via a rout with the big three leading in scoring, the memory of the second game loss right in Boston seemed to still haunt White.
Today, Porzingis left the game early with recurring injury and it was like game two again with Miami's Tyler Herro, Caleb Martin and Jaime Jaquez shooting well and center Bam Adebayo having his way on the inside.
White resolved to do something asap.
He turned himself to a one man wrecking crew especially on offense and hit 15 of 26 field attempts including 8 of 15 from the three-point range on the way to a team high 38 points, leading the Celtics to a 102-88 stomping of the Miami Heat.
White also helped in limiting the Heat to just 35 of 86 from the field and 9 of 33 from the three points country.
Though Boston also shot 35 of 86 from the field, White's great shooting from both ends the floor and especially the trifecta area, helped in another Celtic huge win over its archrival from the last season.
For the first time, Tatum and Brown played secondary roles in scoring with 20 points and 17 points. Before he left, Porzingis was already good for 7 points. White's inspired play may have rubbed on defensive guard Jrue Hoilday who tallied 11 points while relief center Al Horford added another 7 points.
For Miami, Adebayo scored 25 points mostly from inside the paint. Herro had 19 points, Martin 18 points and Jaquez and Patty Mills with 9 points each.
The series returns to Boston with the Celtics enjoying a decisive 3-1 advantage.
In the other scheduled games:
The Denver Nuggets ended its series against the Los Angeles Lakers, edging out a 108-106 victory in the fifth game in Denver. The game had the makings of the last game won by the Lakers but in the dying seconds, Aaron Gordon snatched an offensive rebound and set Jamal Murray once again for the winning jumper.
Oklahoma City Thunder was all business in disposing the New Orleans Pelicans, 97-89 for a 4-0 sweep.
